Nokia launches 3 new CDMA handsets (6316s, 3806, 1506) in China. Each of these phones offers numerous features, some more than others, all at affordable prices. The 6316s is a 3G phone. It has a great deal of multi-media capabilities including web browsing, the ability to send and receive e-mail and a 2.2 QVGA display screen. It is available in three colors, red, black and gold. Nokia plans to make this phone available in China by the first quarter of 2010.
The Nokia 3806 CDMA is very similar to this 6316s. It also comes standard with 2.0 megapixel camera, a 2.2 inch QVGA screen. It also has a video camera. Users are able to add up to 4GB of internal memory with the use of a MicroSD card.
The Nokia 1506 has the least amount of features and is the most basic. However, it is a very attractive phone and very affordable. Individuals will also be able to benefit from the phone’s long-lasting battery, voice recording and speakerphone capabilities. It can be purchased in black and plum. Nokia plans to have this phone on the market in China by the end of 2009.
The launch of three new CDMA by Nokia is proof of their commitment to the CDMA network. Whether or not they choose to utilize this network in the future remains to be seen. As of now, they are providing a few very affordable options for mobile phone buyers interesting in utilizing the network.
Each of the aforementioned phones are good options but for very different buyers. The 1506 is great for those who simply want the basics. Those persons who only want to be able to call out and receive calls or who don’t have a lot of money to spend on mobile phones may find the 1506 ideal. The 6316s and the 3806, offer more features and thus are more expensive. Individuals who have more money to spend or who have become accustomed to the multi-media capabilities of most smartphones and don’t want to give them up, might instead opt for one of these two models instead. And no doubt we will be able to get hold of them at a very reasonable price among the new year Nokia deals.

Since the launch of the hugely successful car navigation systems, phone companies have tried to start introducing phone navigation systems onto mobile phones. While some have succeeded many have failed. The programs are useless with very little sense of direction, with unhelpful and uncoordinated directions from the on board speaker. The new Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition however manages to combine all the elements you would want in a satellite navigation system into one stylish and small phone. The phone comes with Nokia maps preloaded, so you literally just have to touch a button and it appears. You then simply set your location you want to go to and your start position, and you automatically get directions to your destination. The directions are step by step, meaning you are told every single detail you need to know, such as when to turn, when to brake and slow down. However, if this annoys you then you can turn off some of the features to allow you a more peaceful drive.
The phone also comes with many free bonuses. The main one of these is the 2GB memory card, which allows you to store additional maps on, particularly the ones you may use abroad. You can also store pictures, music and videos on there, either to listen or watch on your phone, or ones that you have captured on your phone and want to transfer to a computer at a later date.
If you want one of these seemingly perfect phones then you will have to wait a while. Due for release in the second quarter of 2010 the phones are going to be launched in developing countries first, but are expected to come over to Europe and America soon after. These amazing phones are sure to be a huge selling success, so keep your eyes peeled.

Nokia is planning to shut down its stores both in Chicago and in the city of New York in 2010. Alternatively, Nokia plans to get its mobile phones to the American market via phone retailers and mobile services providers.
A peep into an article found in Engadget, makes the picture much clearer as to reasons behind Nokia’s action. The article stated that, “in North America, over 90 percent of consumer purchases are made through carriers. Nokia continues to support our relationship with carriers in this market, as well as the continued expansion of our retail partner network with the likes of Amazon and Best Buy (for example), in line with our strategy. As we continue to expand our services and solutions offerings across these various channels, we have decided to close the NY and Chicago stores to allow more concentration on our other channels.
The flagship stores were originally conceived to inspire and educate consumers to the benefits of mobility through an innovative retail experience, and to broaden the appeal of the Nokia brand. Since opening the stores at NY and Chicago (2006), consumer awareness in the U.S has grown substantially. Weighing those dynamics with Nokia’s clear strategy in North America, and our well-established retail channel with third parties, we will close these two stores (New York and Chicago) in early 2010.”
This closure is coming on the heels of recent closure of its store in the United Kingdom. The message Nokia appears to be telling the whole world is that, these stores have achieved the aims that they were set upfor in the first place and hence the need for them to move with the ever changing and dynamic way of reaching out to consumers. Though Nokia has not given a clear date when the closure will be carried out, what is however very certain is that we shall continue to follow developments as they unfold in the next few days or may be weeks.

Apple has filed a suit in response to the one filed by Nokia two months ago. Apple is claiming infringement on thirteen of its patent rights by Nokia. Apple’s claims are hinged on areas that are less essential, contrary to claims of areas vital to industry standard claimed by Nokia back in October. A claim Apple has since refuted.
According to a post found on the All About Symbian, which reads thus, “In 2007, Apple introduced the iPhone a ground -breaking device that allows users access to the functionality of the already popular ipod on a revolutionary mobile phone and internet device…The iPhone has caused a revolutionary change in the mobile phone category.
In contrast, Nokia made a different business decision and remained focused on traditional mobile wireless handsets with conventional user interfaces. As a result, Nokia has rapidly lost share in the market for high-end mobile phones…
In response, Nokia chooses to copy the iPhone, especially its enormously popular and patented design and user interface.”
Taking a closer look at Apple’s claims, they may not be unconnected to the company’s latest deliveries to the market. Apple seem to be pointing at all Symbian S60 and 40 mobile phones and possibly other infringements according to Apple’s law suit, could be Nokia’s USB among others.
Apples Senior Vice president and General Counsel, Bruce Sewell, gave an insight into the legal issue as, “other companies must compete with us by inventing their own technologies, not just by stealing ours.”
It is not clear where this would lead to, but one thing for sure is that the suit filed at the United States District Court of Delaware is going to reveal how far the mobile world has gone in the competition for the very competitive market mobile telecommunication sector. The suit, when finally determined will go a long way in laying to rest issues of patent rights and infringements.

One of the leading mobile phone manufacturers, Nokia used its Annual Capital Market Event to unravel its objectives and aspirations for the year 2010. In their announcement, Nokia expressed the resolve to improve on their execution and take more advantage of the competitive edge they already have. Nokia also exhibited the newly added advancements to the Symbian user interface.
Nokia’s Chief Operating Officer, Olli-Pekka Kalasvuo said, “In 2010, we will drive user experience improvements, and the progress we make will take the Symbian user interface to a new level”. Considering the greater level of adaptability shown by Symbian operating system in comparison to other platforms, Nokia is considering placing new prices for smartphones all around the world, in the midst of ever growing profit margins. “I see great opportunity for Nokia to capture new growth in our industry, by creating what we expect to be the world’s biggest platform for services on the mobile”, the CEO had to say.
Nokia’s estimates show that market for mobiles will be experiencing a great 10% growth level in comparison to 2009. While the company expects no change in the volume of shipments, there is much anticipation that Nokia’s mobile device value market share will see a slight growth. And in the middle of all these forecasts, a “lower average selling price (ASP) erosion of its mobile devices in 2010” is also waiting in the wings.
Nokia announced the following targets to be achieved in the coming years:
- Nokia expects to incur EUR 5.7 billion in 2010 on non-IFRS operating expenses in the Devices and Services division.
- Nokia also aims to bring non-IFRS R & D expenses in Devices and Services in 2010 below the range of 10% of the net sales, while the margin in the same division is expected to fall in-between 12 percent to 14 percent.
- Nokia is continuing to target minimum Services net sales of EUR 2 billion in 2010, while it aspires to bring in 300 million users worldwide under its umbrella by the same year.
As for Nokia-Siemens Network the following forecasts were announced by Nokia:
- Nokia Siemens Network is expected to grow at a faster rate in 2010
- As compared to 2009, both Nokia and the Nokia Siemens Network will experience an unchanged market with respect to Euro in infrastructure building and associated services.
- Non-IFRS operating margin will be at a 2% of the breakeven in 2010 for Nokia and Nokia Siemens Network, while the Network also targets at reducing its non-IFRS operating and production expenses to EUR 5 million till the end of 2011.
Nokia has plans to provide users with a better experience, a rejuvenated user interface with Symbian and at releasing a device powered by Maemo 6 OS for the very first time. Nokia aims at expanding the Services business and at offering increased number of QWERTY and touch devices. By reaching the potentially rising market and aiming to “optimize the industry’s lowest cost end-to-end business model in Mobile Phones” Nokia is showing the intent that is required to become the leader in this industry.

There is a strong indication that Nokia’s next biggest thing in terms of Mobile device has been unveiled to the internet with full details of specs and pics accompanying.
This device is the N87 (based on the information received) which is designed to work with a 12MP camera and would also make use of a high-end touch screen too. It has basic similarities as the N86 with a 3.2 in capacitive screen and an extraordinary high resolution 800 x 480 WVGA which would improve navigation and make picture viewing delightful. There is also a likelihood of fast picture capturing as it has a small slogan at the bottom ‘capture as it happens’. The 12MP sensor has a dual LED and a Xenon flash to aid picture taking and improve picture quality.
Its processor speed has been the talking point of the town as it is believed that Nokia should have improved it after all it’s 600 MHz processor can’t be regarded as fast enough for this present age and since it would not be launched till the 3rd quarter of next year, then there is definitely no reason why Nokia shouldn’t take its time to release a faster device that would be welcomed and accepted by all.
From the pictures leak, it was discovered to have a touch screen so this strikes out the presence of a physical keyboard although it is expected that a slide will be allowed for the multimedia keys. There are more arguments from users who prefer the keypad as they believe it to be more accurate and nicer when having to type lengthy text messages.
One can do nothing but await the eventual release of this device with upgraded so sternly debated but I expect more classy releases from Nokia come next year.
