Nokia N86: A Special Nokia Phone

March 26th, 2009

Nokia N86 8MPOnly last month did I hear about the Nokia N86 8MP and I must admit I was very surprised. And you would be too; if you had attended the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona, Spain last year and not even heard a mention of this phone from its makers. While other Nokia models were prominently displayed, no one even whispered the name of Nokia N86 8MP.

But, now the mystery seems to have cleared up. Word is that this mobile phone is considered so special by Nokia that it decided to have a special announcement for its release as opposed to clubbing it other models. And now that some of the details of the features of the phone are out, I can completely get what is so special about Nokia N86 8MP.

nokia-n86The See the official site, which is slated for release in the second quarter of 2009 was finally unveiled at GSMA 2009 amidst much fanfare. The most talked about feature of this model was undoubtedly its 8-megapixel camera. While Nokia has come up with 5 megapixel camera in some of its other models, this is the first Nokia mobile phone to have incorporated an 8 megapixel camera.

To enhance picture viewing quality, the Nokia is equipped with a Carl Zeiss Tessar lens, which is absolutely top of the line. It is also equipped with a variable aperture to help you get sharper and clearer pictures, whether you are shooting in super-bright or low-light environments. The phone is also equipped with a dual-LED flash to enhance picture quality in low light environments as well as a fast mechanical shutter that should reduce motion blur.

So, if you want to combine the functions of a phone with a great camera, you know which new model to look out for in the near future!

Nokia N86 8MP an individual performer

The new Nokia N86 8mp is a step forward from the current Nokia N85. The main difference here is the camera, with the new Nokia N86 coming complete with an 8 megapixel camera with auto-focus, flash and carl Zeiss optics.
Judging by its looks, it is almost identical to the N85, however the specs have been upgraded to suit the updated technology that is now available. One particular feature that is worth noting is the new Ovi service that allows you to share photo’s with your friends. You can read more about this on the official page. The Nokia N86 also comes with Geo Tagging and GPS navigation, a standard on all N-series phones nowadays. The big difference here from the previous N85 is most certainly the camera. It doesn’t have quite as much to offer as the Nokia N97 that we talked about a while ago, but as a mid range mobile phone it should do the trick.
The Nokia N86 comes with a 2 way slide mechanism, that allows for dedicated gaming and camera keys. This is a similar design feature that can be found on many of the N-series phones. Nokia have also thrown in Nokia maps meaning you will never get lost again (assuming that you can get reception).
Other improvements on the Nokia N86 are an OLED display that is scratch resistant using hardened glass. This is something that I personally really appreciate. I found that my old N96 got scratched pretty easily. Overall if you are looking at new mobile phone deals at the moment, then the N86 is a great middle of the range N-series handset.
